“Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” — John 7:38
A Cold Awakening, by Gini Kittle

The other morning I woke up to a surprise. After having many days of fairly mild spring weather, I was shocked to look outside and find it snowing. The yard was covered with a thin veneer of snow. I couldn’t help but think of the scene from The Wizard of Oz when Glinda (the good witch of the north) causes it to snow to awaken the weary travelers who’d been put to sleep by the wicked witch of the west. She had created a beautiful field of poppies directly in their path and as they had run through it the enchanted fragrance of the poppies had put them to sleep.

How well this depicts the days in which we live as believers. While sojourning in this life, we must be cautious of what the enemy of our souls places in our pathway. The cares of this world or the pleasures of life can quickly cause us to become lethargic to the things of God. But in these days the Lord is sending His Spirit to the Church as a blanket of snow to break the slumbering spell and awaken His people.

Lord, I pray that we would allow your Spirit to transform this generation. Remove complacency … wake us up! May we ever be looking to You for our next move and act. Remove distractions — those things that get in our way and take up our time. Refresh us and fill us with so much of your kingdom that there will be no room for any thing else such as doubt, unbelief, or the spirit of this world. Give us your sense of urgency — this is the time … this is the day … this is the hour. Amen.
