“Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” — John 7:38
Tasting or Feasting?, by Gini Kittle

In my devotions the other day, Joyce Meyer was encouraging believers to not just read a little sample of the Bible each day, but to truly study it. As 1 Timothy 2:15 instructs us, “Study to show yourself approved by God, a workman who need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

I’m afraid too many of us approach reading God’s Word like I used to — tasting a little bit here and having a nibble over there as if we’re sampling hors d’oeuvres at a reception. But if you and I want to truly be strong in the faith and spiritual healthy, we must begin to feast on God’s Word. We need to think of it as sitting down to a banquet instead of grabbing a quick snack.

As for myself, I want to be like the Bereans. The Bible says they had a noble character, for
“they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these things were true” (Acts 17:11).

So, let me encourage you to consider making your time each day with God’s Word more than a check box on your to-do list. Consider taking the time and making the effort to really study the Bible so that you actually lay hold of its truths and treasures. I’m certain you will be blessed, for God has promised to bless those who study His Word.
“Blessed is the one whose … delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2).
