Redeeming Each Day

The day my mother passed away, five years ago, my daily devotion started with the following verse, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time” (Ephesians 5:15-16). The author of the devotion talked about how she makes certain she uses the food in her refrigerator by the “use by” date. Otherwise, it has to be thrown out. She compared that to our own lives. We are each given 24 hours in a day, and we need to use the time we have on the earth for good.

I was truly ministered to as I read the words of my devotion that day. I felt like God had planned it just for me! My mother had truly brightened our world with the love of Christ, and now I was being reminded to redeem my time and do the same!

As we start a new year, it’s a good remembrance to capture every moment we have been given by God and use them for His plans and purposes. That means being present in the moment; loving more deeply, listening more carefully, forgiving more quickly, and speaking more positively.
