But strong meat belongs to those who are mature” — Hebrews 5:14

Our family has undergone a transformation in our eating habits in the past six weeks due to wanting to eat healthier … and wanting to shed some extra pounds put on during the holidays. One of the things we have implemented is cutting out sugar.  (And, do you ever have to become a sleuth in reading food labels!)  In doing so, we have been pleasantly surprised at how cutting sugar out of our diets has increased the deliciousness of the food we’re eating!  It’s as though sugar masked the flavor of what we had been eating, and made us want to eat more and more bad food!  Not only that, but “real’ food is so satisfying and much healthier for you!

I began to think about this in regards to my spiritual life.  How often have we settled for “junk food” (reading Christian books or just listening to somebody’s podcasts) and not enjoyed the “real food” of the Bible for ourselves?  There is nothing wrong with reading Christian books, listening to sermons or Christian CD’s, but they should supplement our reading of God’s Word not replace it. Be sure you are reading the Bible for yourself every day!
