In Psalm 51:12, David cried out to the Lord, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” He was at a very low point in his life and knew that no one but God could give him back his joy. And that's how it is with all of us. If you are in the middle of a difficult situation that has stolen your joy, ask God to restore His joy to your life.

After my mother passed away seven years ago, I felt so empty and had such a heavy sadness in my heart. Like David I prayed, asking the Lord to restore His joy to my life. Soon afterward, I found myself remembering funny things about my mom. I began chuckling with laughter recalling times we shared together. It instantly lifted the heaviness I had been feeling and filled my empty heart with joy.

Isaiah 61 tells us that the Lord is anointed to bestow upon us
“the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair” (Isaiah 61:3). The next time your heart becomes feeling hollow or heavy, pray and ask God to give you His joy!
